What goes wrong
We handle emergency lock problems that break because something inside the mechanism has failed or because the key has. Common calls in Northeast Philadelphia involve snapped keys stuck in pin-and-tumbler cylinders, bolts that have sheared where the throw meets a warped door, and deadbolts that bind against a distorted strike. We work on cylinder locks, mortise locks, rim locks, and commercial latchsets; we cut out broken cores, extract jammed pins, replace stripped tailpieces, and fit new cylinders that match the existing hardware so the door operates as it should.

What the job involves
When a lock is damaged from force or a failed key, we assess whether the cylinder can be repaired in place or needs removal. We check the tailpiece, cam, and retaining clips, and examine the door edge and strike for deformation. If the bolt is bent we straighten or replace it and reinforce the strike with longer screws and a hardened plate when needed. For cars we inspect the wafer or disc mechanisms and the ignition cylinder; for safes we look at dial work and boltwork before deciding on mechanical versus non-destructive entry.

Good to know
If you call us from anywhere in Northeast Philadelphia, tell us whether the lock is on an exterior entry, a secondary door, a storefront, or a vehicle, and whether the key is present, broken, or missing. Prepare to show identification and proof of ownership for the property or vehicle; for cars have the registration or keys, if available, and note make, model, and year. Photos sent by text of the door and lock help us know what tools and replacement parts to bring from our van that we drive out from Havertown.

Worth knowing
While you wait, keep everyone clear of the door swing and don’t try to wiggle or force the bolt with a screwdriver or pry bar; that often worsens the damage. If electricity or electronics are involved, isolate power to the lock if you can safely access the breaker. For vehicles, keep any keys or broken fragments you retrieved in a safe spot. We’ll explain the repair options and what replacement hardware will do for the security of your entry once we see the lock.
