What goes wrong
Commercial doors in offices, retail shops and warehouses fail in a few common ways: panic bars jam from bent linkage, exit devices lose spring tension, cylinders shear after forced entry, and strikes pull loose from weak frames. We diagnose the problem by testing the latch, checking throw lengths, measuring backset and examining the strike and frame reinforcement. If an access control keypad or electric strike is involved we test the power and door circuit. In Highland Township we handle those same failures in storefronts and small commercial buildings, bringing the tools and parts we need to work on site.

What the job involves
When we get called for a stuck or damaged door we start by securing the opening so staff can keep working. We remove trim and examine the boltwork, then determine whether the cylinder can be rekeyed or must be replaced, whether the exit device needs linkage work or a complete swap, and whether the strike plate needs longer screws and a reinforced box. For electric locks and magnetic holders we use a handheld meter to check voltage and a jumper to test the release. We drive out from Havertown with blank keys, pinning kit, drills, punches and a selection of cylinders and exit devices.

Good to know
While we work you should keep customers or employees away from the doorway and, if keys are involved, have the master key or any existing keys available so we can match profiles and pin stacks. For access control jobs have the wiring diagrams or the name on the controller if you can; if you don’t know them we can trace circuits and identify the controller on site. If the door secures a cash area or server room let us know right away so appropriate staff are present. We’ll need someone with authority to approve changing cores, rekeying or altering a master key system.

Worth knowing
For planned upgrades we install new cylinders, rekey systems, fit exit devices and panic bars, replace or adjust door closers, and repair or swap strikes and reinforced strike boxes. For master key systems we record existing cuts, create a keying schedule and label new cores before we leave, and for keypad or card access we add or remove users on site when possible. Many Highland Township businesses call with retrofit work on existing hardware; we assess the door, frame and handing, then recommend physical changes such as longer screws, reinforced strikes or a different latch trim to make the work durable.
