What goes wrong
Locks in commercial buildings fail in a few predictable ways: cylinders wear and stick, mortise locks bind, exit devices misalign, and electric strikes or keypads lose power or communication. We see doors that slam shut because a closer is set wrong, panic bars that have bent cams, and master key cylinders that have been overcut. When a Glenside office calls, we drive out from Havertown with the parts and tools for cylinders, latches, strikes, and exit device components so we can diagnose what’s actually seized, sheared, corroded, or misadjusted.

What the job involves
A typical commercial job starts with a hands-on inspection of the door and frame, not just the lock. We check handing, measure backset and faceplate size, test the bolt or latch, and look at the strike and reinforcement. For electronic systems we trace power and network connections, read fault codes from readers and panels, and, when necessary, remove a damaged cylinder or exit device to install a replacement. We cut, pin, and set cylinders on-site, splice wiring for access control, and fit reinforced plates where strikes have failed.

Good to know
While we work, it helps if the business secures adjacent doors and routes customers away from the affected opening. We appreciate a clear path to the door, a staff member who can show us any existing keying or access-control credentials, and someone who can confirm which doors must remain secured during the repair. If a stairwell or back door is in use for deliveries or foot traffic in Glenside, tell us which doors can be taken offline so we can sequence the job with as little disruption as possible.

Worth knowing
Before we arrive gather what you can: any keys or cores you have, a copy of a master key plan if one exists, recent invoices for previous hardware, and photos of the lock or keypad. Note whether the door has a full metal frame, wood frame, or aluminum storefront, and whether power is available to the reader or strike. We do all work on-site (there’s no counter to visit), and when you call we’ll explain what we need to proceed and what to expect during the repair, whether the job involves rekeying, replacing a cylinder, servicing a closer, or modifying an access-control panel near Jenkintown or the surrounding area.
