What goes wrong
Locks in houses fail in a handful of familiar ways: a cylinder that refuses to turn, a key that snaps in the keyway, a deadbolt with a bent or worn tailpiece, a door that drags and jams the latch. We come to inspect the hardware and the door itself, checking cylinder play, cam alignment, strike plate position and whether the lock body is solid or corroded. If a key is broken we extract the stub, if tumblers are worn we remove the cylinder for closer examination, and if the strike is loose we set new fasteners and shims so the bolt has a clean, full throw.

What the job involves
Many homes we service in Marcus Hook present simple mechanical fixes: reinforcing a rotten jamb, swapping out a rickety knob for a robust lever set, or rekeying a lock when a key is lost. We carry common pins, spools and key blanks and can rekey most cylinder types on the spot. If a lock is beyond repair we fit a replacement chosen to match the latch type and backset, mortise or bored hole, and we show how the new hardware works before we leave. We always drive out from Havertown and bring the tools and parts needed for typical residential work.

Good to know
When you call, tell us what failed and how the door behaves: whether the cylinder turns partway, whether the bolt sticks, or whether the key wiggles. That helps us bring the right blanks and parts. While we’re en route it’s useful to stand clear of the swing of the door and make sure pets are secured so we can work without interruptions. If you have the original packaging or any extra keys, have them ready; if the door has been painted over the edge, point that out so we can assess where it binds.

Worth knowing
For lockouts and lost keys we ask for proof that you live at the property before we start work; a driver’s license with the address or a utility bill on a phone are fine to show. We explain each option: rekeying the existing cylinder, changing to a different keyway, or installing a new deadbolt or knob. If you live near Linwood or Boothwyn and call, we treat the job the same as anywhere else: diagnose the hardware, show you the components we recommend, and leave the door operating smoothly with new or adjusted hardware and clear instructions on care and key control.
