Residential Locksmith

What residential locksmith involves in East Pikeland Township, PA

What goes wrong

Homes call us for the usual mechanical failures: keys that bind or snap in a pin-tumbler cylinder, deadbolts that won't extend because the bolt or strike is misaligned, knobs that turn without catching, and multi-point locks that stop engaging. We’ve worked on these problems for more than 13 years and we drive out from Havertown to the job. In East Pikeland Township we see older cylinders seized with corrosion and newer locks suffering from poor installation; knowing the parts and how they fail is how we fix them.

What the job involves

When we arrive we first examine the hardware and the door; diagnosis tells us whether we can rekey the cylinder, extract a broken key, or swap the core. Typical work includes taking the cylinder out to service pins and springs, fitting a replacement cylinder or deadbolt, drilling only when the core is irreparable, and fitting or reinforcing the strike and jamb so the bolt engages fully. We carry replacement cylinders, a key cutter, and the tools to square a warped door or trim a sticking edge on site.

Good to know

While we’re on the way you should secure the house from the inside if you can, and make a clear access path to the lock. Have the door open or make space for us to set out our tools and reach the lock if it sits high. Gather any existing keys, garage remotes, or paperwork that shows ownership if you’re the leaseholder; that helps us match pinning to the correct cuts. If you have pets, confine them so they don’t get underfoot while we work.

Worth knowing

If you can, take a close photo of the lock and the door edge and text it to us before we get there; that often tells us what parts to bring. Note whether the existing hardware is a rim cylinder, mortise lock, or a through-bolt deadbolt and have copies of any keys ready. We service East Pikeland Township and nearby towns like Phoenixville and we come prepared from Havertown with cores, strikes, long-throw deadbolts, and cutting gear so we can complete most residential jobs where the lock actually is.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

More questions people ask before calling.

My key is stuck in the door and won't turn, what should I do?

We suggest you stop forcing it and support the knob or lever while you try small back-and-forth wiggles. A light graphite or silicone spray on the keyway can help; avoid oil-based lubricants. If it won’t free, we use extraction tools, inspect the key and cylinder for broken teeth or bent shafts, and replace or re-pin the cylinder as needed.

I just moved into a house, can you change the locks so previous owners can't use their keys?

We can either re-pin the existing cylinder so only a new key operates it, or remove the old cylinder and install a new one. Re-pinning replaces the pin stack inside the plug to match a new key; replacing the cylinder gives you a fresh lock body. We do the work at your door and check the strike and hardware for wear.

I want to install a deadbolt, so what options do I have and what should I pick?

Deadbolts come single-cylinder (thumbturn inside, key outside) or double-cylinder (key on both sides), and with different bolt lengths and steel bolt bodies. Pick single-cylinder for egress ease unless there's glass near the door. Choose a solid-steel bolt with a deep-set strike and reinforcing screws; confirm the door thickness and backset before ordering hardware.
