What goes wrong
Locks fail in obvious ways: a key snaps off in a cylinder, a deadbolt jams after the bolt warps, a knob tumbler sticks, or a strike plate pulls away from a door edge during a forced entry. We handle locked-out homes and businesses in Lower Chichester Township and the surrounding area, and we respond to those problems by assessing what broke and what should be fixed to stop it happening again. We drive out from Havertown in a van stocked with cylinders, picks, extraction tools, new keys and replacement hardware.

What the job involves
On arrival we run a quick diagnosis of the door, frame and lock so we know whether to extract a broken key, re-pin a cylinder, replace a worn lock or repair the strike and reinforcing trim. For cars we examine the lock and handle assembly and the key or fob to decide between entry by the lock or by using the interior mechanism. We explain what we will do in plain terms and then get to work using non-destructive methods whenever that will do the job.

Good to know
While you wait, keep yourself safe and keep the work area clear. Stay inside if the door is secure, or step to a neighboring safe spot if there has been a break-in; don’t try to pry or force the lock with improvised tools, which can make a simple extraction into a replacement job. If someone else will be there to accept repairs, tell them what we’ll need. In Lower Chichester Township we often find having the paperwork and a responsible person on hand speeds things up and avoids confusion.

Worth knowing
Have photo ID and proof of ownership or tenancy ready when we arrive, along with any spare keys or the broken key fragments if you kept them. For vehicles, know the make, model and year and have the registration or title available; for safes, bring any combination cards or serial numbers you have. If you are a landlord, have written permission available to show you have authority to have locks changed. We’ll use that information to cut, code or order the correct hardware and to leave the door secure when we finish.
