What goes wrong
Cars lock themselves in a few ways: keys left on the passenger seat, trunks that latch and won’t pop, key fobs dead from an old battery, or a steering column that locks when the ignition is turned. We look first at exactly what is blocking access (whether it’s a memory key fob, a mechanical key left inside, or a stuck latch) then pick the method that avoids damage. In Narberth and nearby streets we use door wedges and long-reach tools, or targeted lock picks, depending on whether the door has a visible gap or a sealed edge.

What the job involves
When we work on a locked car we aim to open without cutting or drilling. We check the lock cylinder and the door edge to see if there is a small gap for a wedge or if the lock is shielded and needs a different approach. For vehicles with push-button fobs we diagnose the fob first to confirm a battery issue versus a receiver problem, and if a mechanical key is required we extract or duplicate what exists on site. We drive out from Havertown with the tools to try non-destructive entry first.

Good to know
While you wait, the safest thing to do is stay with the vehicle if that’s reasonable, or remain reachable by phone so we can confirm details. Have the vehicle registration and your photo ID ready so we can verify ownership without guessing. If you have any spare key or the original key code card, keep that handy. Please do not try to pry the door with household tools or force the lock; that typically creates more damage we then have to repair or work around when we arrive.

Worth knowing
If a transponder key or a fob needs programming we bring equipment to read and write transponder data when possible, or to suggest the next step if the module or key has failed entirely. We also handle trunk releases and hatchbacks with internal latches and can access rear cargo areas through seats or emergency release points when the exterior latch is not opening. In Narberth and nearby Lower Merion Township we focus on preserving door panels, weatherstrips, and electronic modules so you leave with the car functioning as it did before the lockout.
