What goes wrong
Homeowners call us when a deadbolt sticks, a latch pulls away from the doorjamb, or a key snaps in an old cylinder. We see swollen wood that binds mortise locks, worn keyways that wobble, and loose knobs whose spindle has sheared. In South Pottstown we commonly replace the whole cylinder, cut and key a new set on site, or rebuild a mortise mechanism when parts are available. We always inspect the strike and the screws, because a reinforced strike or a longer screw often fixes the problem owners thought was the lock.

What the job involves
When we come out from Havertown we bring the tools and parts to do the mechanical work at the door: pinning new cylinders, drilling out broken keys, replacing worn knob sets, or swapping in a deadbolt with a longer throw when the jamb allows. We carry a selection of solid metal cylinders, forged knobs, and heavy-duty strikes plus the machines to rekey or cut a new key to match your existing locks. We log what we changed so you know what’s on the house.

Good to know
If you’re waiting in the house, we ask that you keep a clear path to the door and have ID and proof of residency handy so we can confirm you’re authorized to request lock changes. For an exterior lock change we may need access to the latch side and the interior trim; for a garage or basement door have the interior access point open if possible. If you can tell us which door, what brand or marking is on the lock, and whether keys have been lost, that helps us bring the right cylinder or blank on the first trip.

Worth knowing
We work on typical residential hardware: bored cylindrical locks, mortise sets, rim deadbolts, keyed knobs, and multi-point patio door systems. For older wooden doors we check the hinge screws and the fit of the mortise pocket because a misaligned door will kill a perfectly good lock. We can drill, replace, rekey, or reinforce according to what the door needs. In neighboring Pottstown and Kenilworth we do the same hands-on work, diagnosing what failed, explaining the fix, and showing you the new key or part before we leave.
