What goes wrong
Houses in East Brandywine Township bring a fairly consistent set of lock problems: broken keys stuck in a cylinder, deadbolts that won’t fully retract, warped latches that miss the strike, and old knob locks with worn tumblers. We also see rim locks with stripped screws and patio door mortise locks that bind when the frame swells. When customers call, we describe which parts are failing and whether the metal itself is worn or the mechanism is gummed up from dirt and corrosion. That lets us bring the right parts and tools when we drive out from Havertown.

What the job involves
On site we start with a physical inspection of the door, the jamb, the strike plate and the lock cylinder, not a guess based on a phone call. We disassemble what’s necessary to see whether the cylinder can be pulled and pinned, whether the tailpiece is intact, and whether the bolt has a burr or a bent cam. Typical fixes are re-pinning and rekeying a cylinder, swapping in a new deadbolt or lockset, cutting a new key from a broken blank, or fitting a reinforced strike and longer screws to secure the jamb.

Good to know
While we work, customers should clear the area around the door so we have safe access and lay out any keys they still have. Have ready a photo ID and proof of residence if we need to confirm ownership on exterior doors, and gather any spare keys or paperwork for hardware that came with the door. If there are kids or pets, put them in another room so we can use picks and drills without distraction. We’ll explain what we’re doing as we go and show the failing parts before replacement.

Worth knowing
For more secure installations we can fit a heavier bolt, a forged handle set, an electric strike or a locksmith-grade cylinder that blends with the existing trim. If you want consistent keying around the house we can rekey multiple locks to one key or match a new lock to the profile of your current keys. We commonly work from houses in the area and in neighboring towns like Downingtown or Thorndale when customers need a door adjusted, a new strike fitted, or an entry reinforced against repeated pry attempts.
