What goes wrong
Most lockouts happen for straightforward, mechanical reasons: a key left on the seat with the doors relocked, a key snapped off in the ignition or door, a dead fob battery, or a latch that sticks and keeps the striker from retracting. We see both traditional pin-and-tumbler door cylinders and wafer-style locks in vans and imports, plus electronic fobs and transponder systems. In Exton those same faults turn up in everything from older sedans with stiff cylinders to late-model cars with unresponsive remotes. We explain what failed and what we plan to do before we touch the hardware.

What the job involves
When we work on a car lockout we start with a visual check of the door, lock cylinder and any visible damage to the handle or striker. We use non-destructive entry methods first: picks, tension tools, wedges and long-reach tools when the door allows it. If a key is broken we extract the fragment with specialty extractors, and we carry blanks and a portable key cutter for many common keys. We drive out from Havertown in a fully stocked vehicle and carry the tools and blanks needed to finish most jobs at the scene.

Good to know
While we prepare to come out you can help the job go smoothly by gathering a few things: the vehicle registration or title, a photo ID that matches the name on the paperwork, and any spare key or fob you might have. Knowing the vehicle make, model and year and whether the key has a visible transponder chip or a remote fob speeds selection of the right blank and programming method. If the car is parked where it blocks traffic or sits on soft ground, tell us when you call; otherwise, stay nearby and let us know where you are.
04
Worth knowing
Some lock problems require replacement rather than repair. Cylinders that are badly corroded, doors with bent latches, or locks with extensive internal damage sometimes need a new cylinder, a replacement set of tumblers or a reinforced striker to restore reliable operation. We avoid drilling or cutting the lock body when a non-destructive option exists, but we also carry cylinder assemblies and parts so we can fit new hardware on site if that’s the right fix. If you’re outside Exton (for example in Uwchlan Township or Lionville), we bring the same tools and parts and do the work where the lock is, not at a counter.
