What goes wrong
Cars lock themselves in a handful of predictable ways: the key fob locks with the keys inside, a key snaps in the cylinder, a worn blade won’t seat, or a broken interior release cable leaves the door indifferent to your pulls. We come from Havertown and work across Cheltenham Township where we see all of these failures. On a lockout job we first confirm you own the vehicle, then assess the lock type: molded plastic cylinder, exposed metal tumbler, electronic actuator, and pick the least invasive way to get a latch to release.

What the job involves
Our work uses tools that work around the mechanism rather than through it. We use an air wedge to create a gap and a long-reach tool to reach the lock button; if the cylinder is the problem we extract the broken blade and open the door without damaging the trim whenever possible. For fob problems we check the battery and the lock actuator; for mechanically jammed doors we inspect the striker and the latch to decide whether the linkage can be coaxed back into position or if the cylinder needs replacement.

Good to know
While we handle the hardware, there are a few practical things you can do. Stay with the car or keep it in sight and hand us proof of ownership and your photo ID when we arrive so we can proceed. If a key is stuck partway, don’t try to yank it free; that increases the chance of a snapped blade and a longer repair.

Worth knowing
After we get you back into the vehicle we’ll outline what happened and what to expect from the lock or key going forward. If a cylinder is corroded or the blade is badly worn, we can remove and replace the cylinder or make a new key on the spot, and if a door linkage is bent we’ll explain whether a quick adjustment or a later-more-complete repair is appropriate. We handle lockouts across Cheltenham Township and nearby Wyncote, and when you call we’ll tell you how soon we can come and what to have ready.
