What goes wrong
Homes in Rose Valley call us when a key won’t turn, a deadbolt won’t throw, or a knob spins without engaging the latch. Common failures we see are worn cylinder pins, snapped key shafts trapped in the plug, strike plates pulled out of soft jambs, and doors that have sagged so the latch no longer lines up. We work on the actual hardware: removing broken keys, inspecting cylinders and tails, checking bolt throw and backset, and determining whether a new cylinder, reinforced strike, or full lock replacement is the practical fix.

What the job involves
We drive out from Havertown to the house and start by assessing what’s moving and what isn’t. We examine the door edge, the strike, and the bolt itself, then decide on the method: cylinder removal, cylinder swap with the existing door preparation, or, if the plug is ruined, extracting parts and fitting a new cylinder. For mortise locks we look at case integrity and the operating lever; for smart locks we verify battery contacts and wiring before replacing mechanical parts. We use pick sets, extraction tools, rekey kits, and hand tools to restore operation.

Good to know
While you wait, keep occupants and pets away from the work area and have a clear path to the door so we can set up safely. Have identification and anything that shows you live there, and gather any keys you have for that door so we can compare cuts and keyways. If the door is damaged, move fragile items away from the jamb and be prepared to leave the door open for inspection. In Rose Valley we explain the options on site and only proceed after you agree to the repair or replacement plan.

Worth knowing
For most jobs bring any spare keys and tell us what kind of lock it is if you know, knob, deadbolt, mortise, or an electronic deadbolt with a separate battery pack. We can rekey cylinders, replace worn cylinders, fit longer-throw deadbolts, install reinforced strikes and latch plates, and swap out smart modules while preserving the existing trim where possible. When we finish we test the latch and bolt repeatedly and clean up metal shavings so the door works smoothly. Call us and we’ll tell you how soon we can come.
