What goes wrong
Cars lock up for a few straightforward reasons: keys left inside on the seat, trunks that latch on closing, a broken key snapped in the ignition or a worn mechanical lock that no longer accepts a blade. Newer vehicles add dead fobs, transponder chips and push-button starts that can fail if the fob battery is dead or the key’s electronics are damaged. In Caln Township we see all these failures. When you call we tell you how soon we can come, and we drive out from Havertown to the job.

What the job involves
On arrival we check what type of lock and key the vehicle uses before we touch anything. If the door has a visible mechanical lock we try non-destructive entry first: carefully manipulate the lock cylinder or use a long-reach tool to lift the latch without forcing the lock or bending the door. For vehicles with electronic immobilizers we inspect the fob and antenna, diagnose whether the fault is mechanical or electronic, and either extract the broken key, cut a replacement blade to match the lock, or reprogram a transponder if the vehicle allows programming at the roadside.

Good to know
While you wait, the simplest helpful things are to stay by the vehicle, keep any proof of ownership ready, and tell us what happened and which key or fob you normally use. If you moved keys between pockets or purses say so; if a key snapped off mention where it broke and how much is visible. If you have the vehicle title, registration, or a key code stamped on paperwork that can speed replacement key cutting or programming. We don’t need an in-person meeting point away from the car because every job happens where the lock is.

Worth knowing
Have the vehicle keys, registration, and a photo ID available when we arrive, plus any spare fobs or valet keys you might have in a drawer at home. If you know the vehicle’s key type (a plain blade, a laser-cut blade, a transponder chip, or a fob), tell us over the phone so we can bring the right cutters and blanks from our van. We commonly work for drivers in Caln Township and nearby areas such as Thorndale and Modena, and we bring the tools and blanks needed to handle mechanical extractions, blade cutting and basic fob work on site.
