What goes wrong
A locked door can happen several ways: keys left on a seat, a fob that stops communicating, a folded or snapped key stuck in the cylinder, a trunk that separates from the cabin, or a jammed latch that won’t move against a stuck striker. In West Bradford Township we see a mix of late-model cars with electronic locks and older vehicles with solid mechanical tumblers. We treat the problem by identifying whether the failure is electrical, structural, or simply operator error before we pick a method to open the vehicle without causing more damage.

What the job involves
When we work on a car lockout we start with a quick inspection of the door, cylinder, and latch to choose the least invasive entry. We carry wedges, long-reach tools, picks, bolt cutters for padlocks, extraction tools for broken keys, and key blanks and programming tools for many common fobs. If a key is sheared in the lock we extract the shaft and re-cut a replacement; if a fob won’t respond we check the battery and the vehicle’s locking receptacle and reprogram or replace the transmitter on-site when possible.

Good to know
If anyone is locked inside the car, a child or a pet included, phone 911 first, then us. It helps to note the vehicle make, model, year and any aftermarket alarm or steering locks, and to check whether a spare key is at home or with someone nearby. Avoid forcing handles, twisting a metal coat hanger into the lock, or breaking glass; those actions usually multiply the work and can damage weather seals, door panels, or the vehicle electronics.

Worth knowing
We travel from Havertown to jobs across Delaware County and nearby townships, including West Bradford Township, carrying the tools and blanks we need to get you back on the road. Tell us what happened and what you’ve tried so we can bring the right equipment, and be prepared to give consent for the method we recommend; some openings are purely non-destructive, some require removing a door panel or replacing a cylinder. If you can, jot down the VIN or any key code before we arrive to speed replacement of a lost key.
