What goes wrong
Car lockouts happen for predictable, mechanical reasons: keys break in the cylinder, fobs fail, tumblers jam with dirt or corrosion, or a lock actuator refuses to move. We diagnose whether the fault is in the key, the cylinder, the latch, or the vehicle electronics before we touch anything. On many modern cars the access problem isn’t the metal gear at all but a shorted sensor or a dead key fob battery. When you call from Drexel Hill, tell us what happened and any dashboard lights or unusual noises you noticed.

What the job involves
We work on stripped keyways, snapped key bits, frozen linkages, and warped latches. Our response begins with non-destructive methods whenever possible: tensioning the lock, picking with automotive-spec tools, and using key extraction hooks for broken shafts. If a cylinder is seized we assess whether the door skin or the lock mechanism needs removal to avoid damaging weather seals. For vehicles with electronic locks we check for simple fixes like a weak fob battery before moving to more invasive interventions.

Good to know
While you wait we ask you to stay with the vehicle if it’s safe, have your photo ID and vehicle registration available, and confirm the vehicle make, model, and year. If the keys are inside a locked trunk let us know; trunk releases and fold-flat rear seats change the technique. We’ll also need a clear view of the lock and the door edge, so park with room around the car. We drive out from Havertown and will tell you when we can come so you can plan accordingly.

Worth knowing
When a broken key comes out we usually preserve the core so a new key can be cut to the original profile if the blank is available. For transponder keys we can read the chip and program a replacement when the vehicle permits reprogramming without dealer-only tools. If a lock is damaged beyond repair we can replace cylinders, reinforced strikers, or latches with solid hardware and make sure the key operates smoothly through its entire throw. If you’re in Drexel Hill or nearby (Upper Darby or Springfield), we handle the fieldwork at the vehicle, where the lock is.
